The 'Equality in Employment' Business Support Project, sponsored by ONE North East and delivered by Equality North East, is designed to offer a range of fully funded, tailored training and support services that will help SME employers and employees understand and apply the complex legislation that surrounds equal opportunities.
The services will also help SMEs identify and overcome the barriers in the workplace that are caused by discriminatory practices and will demonstrate the real business benefits that can be gained by developing and implementing good equality and diversity procedures and strategies.
The specific aims of the project are:
- To help SMEs - including the Voluntary & Community and Social Enterprise Sectors - strive towards identifying and eradicating discrimination in the workplace by raising awareness of legislation and the business benefits of implementing fair policies and procedures
- To help improve competence in meeting equality and diversity procurement requirements for SMEs seeking to tender for work with the Public Sector
- To ensure that minority groups are aware of their rights and responsibilities in the workplace and are supported in overcoming the barriers caused by discrimination
Equality North East will offer SMEs fully funded training and support the scope of which will be determined by an analysis of the equality and diversity needs of the individual business.
