Racing Ahead In The Equality Stakes at Middlesbrough College

Middlesbrough College student Kelly Bird is fast making a name for herself in what is traditionally a male-dominated world.

The 19-year-old is studying Level Two Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Extended Diploma at Middlesbrough College.

And when she's not switching spark plugs or adjusting alternators you'll find her behind the wheel of her super sporty Mini tearing around race tracks and taking on the boys.

Kelly is one of a growing group of female students studying Engineering at Middlesbrough College.

Students can choose from a range of technical courses including Vehicle Maintenance, Welding and Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Plant Process, Instrumentation and Control Engineering
