Winners 2018

Congratulations to all the winners and finalists this year.

This year has set a precedent, the amount of applications this year has been astounding and the content inspiring. It is heartening to see how many organistaions, large and small, are doing so many amazing things.
Well done to all the finalists and particularly well done to the following winners: -

  • Award for Organisations up to 50 Staff, sponsored by Gateshead College Foundation

    • It�s inspiring to see so many small organisations doing equality and diversity on a grand scale.

    FACT (Fighting All Cancers Together)

    Cancer doesn�t discriminate, neither do FACT. They offer holistic, accessible, diverse services for everyone dealing with Cancer.

  • Award for Organisations up to 150 staff, sponsored by ConNEcting for Change

    • Engaging with hard to reach groups is difficult but the applicants from this category do it exceptionally well.

    Northern Inclusion Consortium

    Their project, Step Forward Tees Valley, aims to reduce poverty and social exclusion. They wanted to specifically target BME women, initially they thought about 15 would turn up to the programme, 56 actually signed up and now there are over 120 engaged.

  • Award for Education & Training Organisations up to 50 staff, sponsored by Gentoo

    • Education is important to everyone, no one should be excluded.

    Nudge Education Limited

    They have worked with 28 of the region�s most hard to reach students achieving 100% engagement. Two thirds successfully transitioned back into a permanent setting without disengaging again.

  • Award for Education & Training Organisations over 50 Staff, sponsored by Accenture

    • This category highlights the positive impact embedding equality and diversity has on the curriculum.

    Newcastle College

    Their Diversity Awards involved the whole college which educate in equality and diversity and increase cultural awareness.

  • Award for Larger Organisation Making a Difference in the Community, sponsored by Cleveland Police

    • It�s been a hard year to judge due to the amount of fantastic applications. This was exceptionally hard.

    Bernicia & Keepmoat Homes (NE)

    Bernicia have shown commitment in providing holistic support to tenants and the community.

    Keepmoat Homes have 56 different initiatives which have engaged nearly 1500 individuals.

  • Award for Individuals Making a Difference, sponsored by Bernicia

    • You really have to admire the difference and commitment these individuals make.

    Karen Soady

    Karen is undertaking some fantastic work for the LGBT+ community and Fire Cadets. She has also been instrumental in devising a pioneering referral system for those most at risk in the community.

  • Award for Groups Making a Difference, sponsored by Muckle LLP

    • So many different groups being engaged in so many different ways. Regardless of the winner, the groups engaged are the real winners!

    Hart Gables

    Delivered a detailed workshop for transgender prisoners and went on to deliver workshops at HMP Low Newton�s very first LGBT Pride, something that is almost unheard of the Prison environment.

  • TUC 150th Anniversary ~ Improving Working Lives Award, sponsored by Northern TUC

    • Very different applicants in this category, from those just starting out to those vastly experienced.

    Mary Titler & Katie Reynolds

    Mary has undertaken considerable work to advance learning opportunities and re-engage employees who previously considered such opportunities unrealistic for them.

    Not only is the work that Katie does with the LGBT+ community challenging but it�s all done in her own time. Which, until recently wasn�t a great deal as she�s just completed a Masters!

  • Award for Organisations Supporting People with Disablities into Employment, sponsored by Newcastle College

    • It�s inspiring to see the amount of work being done to not only support people with disabilities into employment but help them stay there.

    St Camillus Care Group

    A fabulous approach to developing young disabled people�s ability to not only secure, but sustain, meaningful employment.

  • Award for Outstanding Practice, sponsored by Gateshead College

    • This category highlights the outstanding work which can be replicated by others. Sharing good practice makes sense!

    Keepmoat Homes (NE)

    It�s great to see such positive Corporate Social Responsible (CSR) activities from a construction company.

    The magnitude of this year�s applications illustrates the fantastic outstanding work being carried out in the North East. Well Done Everyone!
