The Public Sector Equality Duty: are you ready?
The Public Sector Equality Duty came into effect yesterday (5th April). It replaces the three existing duties covering disability, race and gender, and extends to cover other protected characteristics. The duty requires public authorities, when carrying out their functions, to consciously consider the need to:
* eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
* advance equality of opportunity between different groups
* foster good relations between people from different groups.
