CHARITIES WELCOME EQUALITY BILL

The Equality and Diversity Forum - the network of national organisations working to advance equality and human rights responded warmly today to the announcement of an Equality Bill for Britain.

Amanda Ariss, EDF's Chief Executive, said: 'The major national organisations that we represent are united in welcoming the announcement of the Equality Bill today. The Bill should improve ordinary peoples lives and simplify the law for businesses.

Countless older people will benefit when treating people unfairly simply on grounds of age is outlawed in services such as health, social care and financial products. But important concessions, such as free bus travel for pensioners, will remain. And public bodies will have a new duty not just to avoid discrimination but also to take practical steps to tackle disadvantage and meet different needs.'
