BBC boss resigns over gender pay inequality

A BBC Editor has resigned over unequal pay with male colleagues, noting that the reaction to her resignation shows there is a “depth of hunger” for “equal, fair and transparent pay”.

Carrie Gracie, who was the BBC’s China Editor, stepped down citing pay inequality with male colleagues.

Speaking on BBC women’s hour, Gracie said that she “could not go back to China and collude knowingly with what I believed to be unlawful pay discrimination.”

She added: “The support I have had in the last few hours over this, I think it does speak to the depth of hunger for an equal, fair and transparent pay system".
