Equality Act too dependent on ‘social norms’ to combat discriminatory dress codes

MPs hear of negative impact of high heels and make-up on women at work, and urge employers to review their policies

MPs have called on employers to review their dress codes to make sure they are appropriate and non-discriminatory, as part of a panel discussion and parliamentary debate on high heels and workplace dress codes.

In the panel discussion before the debate, Helen Jones MP, chair of the Petitions Committee, said their inquiry into high heels at work raised a number of other issues, and called for “more information, more awareness and more access to justice”.
